WITH onset of summer, people across the region particularly at the district headquarters are reeling under acute water crisis.Water supply in almost each and every ward under Raigarh Municipal Corporation has reportedly gone shorter. Depletion of water level is stated to be the reason behind the scene.Denizens are forced to long for water by standing in long queue for hours. The hand-pumps have stopped emanating water. Besides, bore-wells and local water bodies have also gone dry.Denizens are at quandary, thinking that situation might worsen in upcoming days and May, when summer will be at its peak. At the same time, they have also expressed disappointment over alleged apathy of Municipal Corporation for not making any proper arrangements to overcome water crisis.

As per information, in many areas including Nawagarhi colony, the bore-wells are not emanating water. The several appeals of residents for connecting pipeline under Jal Awardhan Yojana (water augmentation scheme) have also gone unheard.  Ward corporator Kamal Patel termed it as apathy of Municipal officials for not considering the situation despite repeated appeals. Shakha Yadav, another corporator said situation had worsened in low lying areas and particularly in new wards. “ It is Municipal Corporation’s apathy due to which denizens are suffering” alleged Yadav. When contacted, Municipal Corporation Chairperson Saleem Niyaria said that the issue had been discussed with Municipal Commissioner, officials of Irrigation Department and Collector. “Amount of water coming from Kelo dam is not sufficient to meet residents’ needs. It is expected that water would soon be released”, he added.
