Commuters in many parts of the city were severely affected on Monday as more than 6,000 drivers of aggregator cabs like Ola and Uber went on one-day strike observed under the banner of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

The strike was held in support of various demands of the drivers who alleged that Ola and Uber officials are giving them stepmotherly treatment which is eventually causing them huge financial loss. Hemant Gadkari, General Secretary - Maharashtra State of MNS, said the strike was 100 per cent successfull. “Almost all the drivers in the city had gathered here at Reshimbagh ground right from the morning hours. Nobody was operting today,” he said. He added that large number of drivers of Ola and Uber have been passing through difficult phase becuase of the unprofessional behaviour of the companies.

“The drivers who were promised good returns had bought vehicles by taking financial assistance from freinds and relatives. Some of them had even sold their properties to buy vehicles. But today they are getting less than half the promised amount which is not even sufficient to repay the loan. The drivers are practically on the verge of starvation owing to the mismanagement by the two companies,” he said. Chandan Gupta, President of the Helping Hand Group, also said that the strike is a big success. “For the past many days we have been highlighting the pathetic condition of the drivers. But the companies are paying no heed. We will intensify the agitation if our demands are not met,” he said
