TODAY is different. That is what legendary Badminton player and Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand said in praise of the current crop of Badminton players in the country. Gopichand said this in the light of the historic team Gold Medal win by the Indian contingent in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Gopichand was comparing the present scenario in Indian Badminton with that prevailing 30-40 years ago when only individual players would sparkle occasionally and when an entire team winning an event was a remote possibility. That speaks of the bench strength that has built up over the years. During the Commonwealth Games P. V. Sindhu’s participation in various team events were restricted due to health niggles. It was then Saina Nehwal who took up the baton and carried much of the burden with aplomb and helped the team win the rare team Gold Medal at such a prestigious international event. Nothing could be more heartwarming than seeing the country’s top two players for Gold and Silver.

THE reduction in number of cyber attack breaches into networks of various organisations is a certificate to data security experts’ consistent pursuit for innovation. A three-month study by Accenture has found out that only one in eight focused cyber attack managed to get through to data as compared to one in last three years. While this rise in success rate needs to be complimented, there is also a genuine need to further sprucing up of data security given the malignant threats Ransomware poses each time it invades into the systems. The finding has also showed loopholes that can be easily exploited by cyber attackers putting the onus on the cyber security experts to embark upon an overdrive. Constant evolution of technology is a challenge that cyber security has to deal with at a rapid pace as the attackers, too, indulge in operating through various new modes that are never easy to decipher quickly. As regards India, cyber security is still a big challenge to data and defence given the business leaders’ slow pace of reaching a sustainable level of cyber resilience.
