THE green shoots are unmistakable  in the Indian economy and they appear to be stabilising for a sustained growth now onwards. In this regard the latest prediction of professional service company KPMG  that the Indian economy’s growth rate would be highest among the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) nations should warm the cockles of the hearts of those managing the country’s economy. Because this encouraging news comes at a time when the Government is grappling with various issues having great bearing on the country’ growth prospects.

But there is no denying that the Indian economy is on the verge of a turn-around. While this is a heartwarming news, there is a general impression that  economic reforms have only raised islands of riches and this perception is not far from reality. Hence the challenge for the Government is to evenly spread out gains when the next phase of economic growth occurs so that every citizen gets to taste the fruits of prosperity. Then only ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ would be a meaningful slogan.

THE business of Indian Premier League, at least from the franchisee’s point of view, is all about smart investment in players. Some resort to hectic spending for a famous buy while others are plain lucky to put their small bet on discarded horses. Kings XI Punjab  owners would be grinning big over their gamble on Chris Gayle that has paid massive returns. The West Indian smasher is back in action and how! Gayle’s whirlwind century, first of this edition of IPL, on Thursday against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a reminder of his prowess that just cannot be questioned.

Unfortunately, someone in his previous franchisee, Royal Challengers Bangalore, thought otherwise and now must be ruing the bad miss. Gayle’s showing in Twenty20 cricket has remained in the top notch. Players like him do not need to be ascertained through prisms like age and form. At 38, Gayle has proved he can defy both in the space of a few deliveries. T20 is considered a youngsters’ field but when Gayle ups his ante, he kicks up a storm, a blizzard that sweeps off any number.
