Befitting farewell accorded to Lt Gen Kanal

A befitting farewell was accorded to Lt Gen Sanjeev Kanal, AVSM, GOC, Madhya Bharat Area as the General officer moves to take over the command of the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. The Academy is responsible for imparting basic military training to Gentleman and Ladies Cadets who get selected after series of competitions and pass out after completion of training as commissioned officers.The General officers 11 month tenure was marked with numerous achievements across the entire spectrum of responsibility of Madhya Bharat Area that is spread across six states i e Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh & Orissa.
First ever Indo-Vietnam Joint table top exercise was conducted in Jabalpur during his command. An Indo-Bangladesh Army joint Training on Counter Insurgency/Counter terrorism was conducted at Bihar Regimental Centre in Patna.

Central Command Investiture Ceremony for awarding Gallantry and other awards for outstanding contribution, presided over by the Army Commander, Central Command was also conducted successfully on Mar 18.Jabalpur Military Station saw drastic improvement and upgradation of a number of facilities for use by individuals and family members posted in station.On the occasion of Republic Day 2018 the General was awarded the Ati Vishist Sena Medal (AVSM) for his outstanding contributions during his more than three and a half decades of service in uniform.
The General was ably supported by his wife Meena Kanal, the senior lady in Madhya Bharat Area. She optimised welfare activities like medical camps for ladies and created job opportunities for those interested through skill development at Army Skill Training Centre (ASTC)
which was institutionalised under her guidance. Welfare of widows and Veer Naries was also accorded due priority by Meena Kanal. She was socially vibrant and led by personal example. While inaugurating a blood donation camp, she was the first to donate blood as well.

While hosting the customary farewell, Major General KJS Gill, SM, Chief of Staff, HQ Madhya Bharat Area thanked the outgoing GOC and the lady for their laudable contributions on behalf of all ranks and families of Madhya Bharat Area.Lt Gen Kanal has handed over command of Madhya Bharat Area to Lieutenant General Rajesh Rana, VSM on Wednesday.
