UNHAPPY with the Supreme Court order diluting the provisions of the SC/ST Act, the Government on Monday said it ‘differs’ with the verdict and questioned why the Union of India was not made a ‘formal’ party in the case.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Government ‘differs’ with the reasoning given by the Supreme Court judgement “virtually redoing the entire architecture of the SC/ST Act”. He said it is important to note that the Government was not firmly made a party in this case and only allowed to make certain oral submissions. Prasad said the Government has filed a very comprehensive review petition in the matter.
