Four-year-old injured in leopard attack

In village Surekha of the remote densely forested area of Ugali police station, on Sunday, a leopard strayed in and at 7 pm attacked a 4 year-old girl child who was playing outside in the garden of her home. The severely wounded child was taken to Keolari Community Health Centre where after she was administered first aid, she was referred to District Hospital where she was in intensive care.


Details elaborated that Surekha Khurd village resident, Nand Kishore Marskole’s 4-year-old daughter, Poonam was playing ball on the little grass patch outside the home when the feline lunged at her, creeping from behind the shadows of the surrounding henna bushes. Her grandmother let out a loud scream at which the rest of the family and neighbours rushed out and chased the leopard back in to the forest. They then informed the Paandian Chappara forest staff. Forest employees and officials that rushed over to the village helped to move the mauled child to the health center at Kewlari. The incident served to spread extreme fear and panic among the residents and were agitated because the leopard for the last four days was being spotted at different hours of the evening and night, in and around the village and had now struck at a child who playing in her own home in a densely populated residential area.
