Inter-state gang selling fake ornaments busted

IN A major breakthrough, a combined team of Crime Branch and Gohalpur police busted an inter-state gang and succeeded in arresting four members, including a woman and a girl, involved in duping people by selling fake jewellery. Police have seized 5 kilograms of fake gold and silver jewellery, 6 mobile handsets and Rs 22,000 cash from the accused. The arrested have been identified as Mangal Rai (38), son of Teja Rai, his wife Tina Rai (38), Arjun Rai (18), son of Shankar Rai and Tulsi Rai (18), daughter of Hari Rai, all are natives of Akash Vikas Colony, Jagdishpura in Agra district (Uttar Pradesh). Officiating Superintendent of Police Kumar Saurabh disclosed this while addressing a press conference on Tuesday.


The SP added that, on Monday, a man named Mohammed Anwar (38), a resident of Amkhera, filed a complaint that he works as a mechanic of LCD television sets. On March 31, two unidentified men reached his house and allured him to purchase one kilogram ancient jewelleries found during digging of land. His wife checked the jewelleries and suggested him to purchase it. He purchased the jewellery and paid Rs 1.5 lakh to two men. He took a sample of jewellery for checking its authenticity to a goldsmith in Miloniganj area and learnt that it was fake gold and silver jewellery.
Acting on the complaint, Gohalpur police registered a case under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC and started investigation into the case. Taking a serious note into the case, SP, Kumar Saurabh constituted a police team under supervision of Additional SP (North) Rajesh Tiwari and Additional SP (Crime) Sandeep Mishra for further investigation into the case.
