Bhopal City Link Limited (BCLL) is soon launching an app, which will help the commuters to track the bus and to look at the exact position of bus and the shortest route besides other features. Naturally, this app will help people travelling by buses and even the ones coming from outside the city giving those details about bus transportation, routes and the available options. But ironically, the existing features provided for commuters are not working properly. Public Information System (PIS) installed at BRTS bus stops to inform commuters regarding the bus schedule, time of arrival of buses and the bus number is non-functional on most of the BRTS bus stops in the city. Even at places where the PIS systems work, they hardly display correct timings and number of bus causing problem for commuters. Places where these systems were in working condition few months earlier have also stopped functioning.

In various areas of the city like near PHQ, Lily Talkies, Jahangirabad stop, Campion School stop, Birla Mandir, seven number stop, stops in MP Nagar area like Sargam Talkies, many stops at link road, New Market area stops, Habibganj Naka, stops in Bairagarh area, MVM College stop, Royal Market and various other stops of the city, the PIS system is either dysfunctional or not in working condition. This problem has commuters struggling on daily basis to know the exact schedule of buses. The problem is major for people, especially females travelling during night hours. Abhirup Dasgupta, a daily commuter said, “I have hardly seen these PIS systems working properly. Sometimes they display buses which do not even ply on the route at that time and the timings are more often than not wrong. At many places, they do not even work and the problem is more during late night hours. Developing an app considering the convenience of the commuter is good, but then, the authorities should also maintain the existing system.” Director of Bhopal City Link Limited, Kewal Mishra said, “We had issued notice regarding the problem to responsible company earlier, asking them to maintain the basic components like PIS. Now that these systems are not working properly, we will issue a notice to respective company and take action as per the rules.”
