‘Gas Panchayat’ from today at GP level

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, ‘Gas Panchayat’ is being organised at Gram Panchayat (GP) level in Nagpur district on April 5 and April 6. Through the ‘Gas Panchayat’, the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will be selected.


Sachin Kurve, District Collector, stated in a release that through the event a list of families not having Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections would be prepared. LPG connection will be provided to such identified families. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is being implemented to make Nagpur district pollution-free, and also to provide LPG connections to families living below poverty line, beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in rural area, beneficiaries of Antyoday Yojana.


The connections will be given by oil marketing companies once the selected beneficiaries fulfill the criteria. Kurve appealed to the eligible people to avail of the benefits of the scheme. For further information, the interested may contact the Sales Officers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Indian Oil Corporation.


As far as urban areas are concerned, the families that do not have LPG connections will get the connections through camps to be organised at the level of LPG distributors. The lists will be forwarded to the oil marketing company concerned, which will then distribute LPG connections to eligible beneficiaries at nominal charges, states the press release.


Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) aims at safeguarding the health of women and children by providing LPG connections, so that they do not face risk to their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas collecting firewood. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme on May 1, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Under the scheme, the Government aims at providing 5 crore LPG connections to families living below poverty line, with a support of Rs 1,600/- per connection. The connections are issued in the name of women.
