To press for their demands members of 108-102 Chhattisgarh Sanjivani Employees Welfare Association staged demonstration on the opening day of their indefinite strike at Idghabhata here. The members alleged that from past many years their demands have been
pending and State Government is not paying any attention towards their problems. The indefinite strike called by employees is focused on seeking justice from the State Government to overcome wage discrepancies, issue of job security, work timings and salary enhancement. According to 108 and 102 State Employees Welfare Association State Vice-President Shiv Sahu, employees have demanded the working hours to be reduced from 12 hours to 8 hours and the workers should be recognised as contract or outsourcing employees by the State Government. ‘Currently, we are working as private employees and have to do 12-hour shift for a salary of Rs 11,500 to Rs 12,500. Even employees who have put in 13 years of their service draw the same salary without an increment for years. The government must recognise us as contract or outsourcing employees, so that we will have some sort of job security’. The employees are demanding the basic pay be enhanced to Rs 21,150. Other demands are overtime payment, timely salary payment, changed dearness allowance as per norms slated by Labour Department, added Sahu.
