EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Vansh Omprakash Yadav missing from Juni Basti, Khamla for past nine days was murdered by none other than his 17-year-old cousin.
The incident came to light after Vansh’s semi-decomposed body stuffed in a polypropylene bag was found in Sonegaon Lake near the parapet wall on Thursday morning.
After conducting inquiries with the family members of the deceased, cops attached to Crime Branch took Vansh’s cousin into custody.

Vansh’s father Omprakash Yadav is a milkman. He runs the milk business from his house. His wife Gauri also helps him in the business. The couple’s daughter Vanshika is a Standard VI student. Their son Vansh was a Standard III student of Sindhi Hindi High School, Khamla.
Around 10 am on March 27, Omprakash left home to distribute milk to customers. After an hour, Gauri also went out for some work. Vanshika had gone to her school. Vansh was alone in the house.

When Gauri retruned in the afternoon, Vansh was not at home. After Omprakash returned, Gauri told him that Vansh was missing. Omprakash and Gauri started searching for their son. The couple went to Vansh’s school. His teacher told them that he was absent for the past couple of days. Finally, the couple went to Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station and lodged a missing report of their son.

As foul smell was emanating from the lake, morning walkers alerted Sonegaon Police at around 8 am on Thursday. Head Constable Kantaprasad Pande, who was patrolling the streets, rushed to the spot. He found a semi-decomposed body of a boy stuffed in a polypropylene bag. He informed his superiors immediately. Senior Inspector (Sonegaon) Sanjay Pande and his staff arrived at the spot. Deputy Commissioners of Police Krishnakant Upadhyaye (Zone I) and Sambhaji Kadam (Crime), Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sonegaon Division) Yashwant Shengle and Senior Inspector Shivaji Gaikwad, In-charge of Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station, visited the spot.

Cops called Omprakash Yadav who identified his son’s body immediately. He told investigators that the polypropylene bag in which the body was found belonged to him. He told police that he used to bring fodder for the cattle in the bag.
After conducting the ‘panchnama,’ police sent the body to Government Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem.
Investigators then picked up some youngsters residing near Omprakash’s house, including Vansh’s cousin, for questioning.

After intense grilling, his 17-year-old cousin spilled the beans. He told police that Vansh often used to hurl obscene abuses at him. He decided to teach Vansh a lesson. On March 27, he strangulated Vansh near the cattle shed and stuffed the body in the bag. He then took the body on a Honda Activa and threw it into the lake.
After taking the accused teenager into custody, Rana Pratap Nagar Police registered an offence under Section 302 of the IPC against him.
