High drama as Lekhpal candidates climb water tank, threaten to commit suicide

Continuing their protest against non-appointment of Lekhpal candidates, demonstrators climbed on a overhead water tank on Friday and threatened to commit suicide.A big drama was witnessed at Jail Road water tank where crowd was gathered to convince the demonstrators. However, police team also reached the spot and convinced the demonstrators to come down. They said large numbers of students have cleared the exam but they are not being appointed due to which they have decided to commit suicide.

Candidates who cleared the Lekhpal recruitment exam conducted by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) on July 2015 are staging protest for non-appointment for a week. There are 1,613 candidates waiting for their appointment by Rajya Shiksha Kendra even after passing the exam for past three years. RSK hold the exam through PEB on April 5, 2015, in which 2,208 applicants were selected for appointment of Lekhpal.

On February 6, 2017, 595 candidates were called for final joining through counselling out of which only 300 candidates were appointed. Remaining 1,613 candidates are still waiting for the appointment. These candidates started their protest at Shah Jahani Park on Monday and said to keep it continue until their demand gets approved. On first day, male candidates demonstrated half-naked while female candidates polished the boot.
