Uproar over misuse of funds in JMC meeting

ADJOURNED special budget meeting of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) witnessed huge uproar over corruption and misuse of public money. Opposition member Vinay Saxena levelled serious allegations of corruption in transportation of silt dug from Gulluatal (pond). He demanded the Chairperson to direct high-level probe into the matter. Vinay Saxena alleged that senior officials concerned have submitted excess bills of the work hence the guilty should be punished severely. As bills of transportation of silt were certified by Congress Corporator Sanjay Rathore he keep on opposing Saxena indirectly. Heated exchange of words was witnessed between both the Opposition members Vinay Saxena and Sanjay Rathore. The former tried to walk out of the House but was persuaded by fellow members.

Later, Saxena repeatedly demanded the Mayor to break her silence on the issue. Agitated over allegations of keeping mum over significant issues, she declared a three-member inquiry committee, comprising Corporator Sanjay Tiwari, Corporator Sanjay Rathore and Incharge, Health Department, Manpreet Singh Anand and asked it to submit report to Deputy Commissioner Gajendra Singh Nagesh within 15 days.

Dissatisfied over inclusion of his name in the committee, Rathore urged the Mayor to remove his name. Later, the Mayor declared new Committee by removing Sanjay Rathore and Sanjay Tiwari and included Congress Corporator Kewal Krishna Ahuja and Shiv Sena Corporator Thaneshwar Mahawar into the committee. Later, long debate held on various issues related to development works. A number of members presented their views and suggestions on proposed budget. They also created din in the House following which the Chairperson has adjourned the meeting to April 11. Special budget meeting started at 11 am on Friday. Opposition member Mukesh Rathore opened discussion on budget and mentioned failure of ruling party in fulfilling its promises in previous budgets. He also gave some suggestions for overall development of the city.
 

Later, former Leader of Opposition Vinay Saxena raised the issue of corruption in transportation of silt dug from Gullua pond. He said officials concerned have submitted bills, which were double to actual amount incurred over transportation of silt. As bills were also certified by Congress Corporator Sanjay Rathore he indirectly opposed the allegations. Later, heated exchange of words were witnessed between both the Opposition members. Speaking in the House, the Mayor said she has complete faith in all 79 corporators including Sanjay Rathore, but without naming anyone, she said some members do not rely on fellow members. Dr Godbole said she never does politics but Opposition members use numerous terms to humiliate her in the House. On the occasion, she vowed for overall development of the city. Later, ruling party member Veena Jain proposed a proposal for allotment of land for Kirti Stambha in Civic Centre and Shanti Nagar pond on the occasion of 50th Deeksha Parv of Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj. The proposal was unanimously approved by the House.Later, amidst uproar the Chairperson adjourned the meeting till April 11.
