10 killed as truck rams into two auto-rickshaws in MP

TEN persons were killed and four were critically injured when a speeding truck rammed into two auto-rickshaws. One of the injured was rushed to Jabalpur for further treatment of his critical injuries, while two are undergoing treatment in Katni.
The spine-chilling incident was reported in village Majhgavan on Katni-Badwara road, 85 kilometres from district headquarters.


According to Katni police, eight persons travelling in an auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot, while two succumbed to their critical injuries undergoing treatment at the hospital.


Deceased have been identified as Rammu Barman (55), son of Ramkaran Barman, Sunil Choudhary (40), son of Kanchedi Choudhary, Raghurai Choudhary (24), son of Balgunda Choudhary, Neelam Baghel (32), wife of Rajesh Singh Baghel, Sughra Choudhary (65), son of Lachua Choudhary, Bhim Baheli (30), son of Mahesh Baheli, Babu alias Dhanpat Choudhary (35), son of Buddhu Choudhary, Sunil Choudhary (28), son of Bhura Choudhary, all from village Nighra were killed on the spot, while Jhamman Bhumia of village Bilgavan and Kodu Barman of Madhav Nagar died at the hospital.


Besides this, a child named Shiv alias Atharva was given primary treatment and referred to Jabalpur for further treatment of his critical injuries, while condition of injured Monu Sondhia, Sattu and Balram is reported to be stable undergoing treatment in Katni. SHO of Badwara police station, B D Dwivedi informed to ‘The Hitavada’ that the tragic incident took place when a speeding truck bearing registration number MP-20 HB-0812 rammed into an auto-rickshaw and, in a bid to escape from the spot, the truck hit another auto-rickshaw. Ten persons were killed in the mishap, while condition of injured is reported to be out of danger. Police seized the truck and registered a case under sections 304 (A), 279 and 337 of the IPC, while a rigorous search is underway to identify and apprehend the accused truck driver.


Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan condoled the untimely death of ten persons and directed the concerned administrative officers to ensure best treatment to the injured. He declared financial relief of Rs 1 lakh each to the bereaved family members and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.


Learning about the incident, Minister of State for MSME, Sanjay Pathak, MLA, Sandeep Jaiswal along with other public representatives reached at hospital and took stock of the health of injured. They directed the hospital administration to provide best treatment to the injured and assured their family members of providing them essential services.


Collector, B S Choudhary and Superintendent of Police, Atul Singh reached the spot of accident and monitored the situation. Police team faced tough time in drawing out scattered bodies from two badly damaged auto-rickshaws and rushed the injured to hospital.
