Raipur Police in course of investigation after finding a white powder in Balaji Dormitory, Station Road, in the bed locker of a person Laxman Ramchit Bind, who had escaped last month, has finally exposed six members of a country wide gang that exercises the modus operandi of stealing/robbing the raw materials of life saving medicines and selling the same, thus causing quality deterioration in medicines.

The arrested gang members are identified as Ramlagan Pandey, 50, Nandlal Bind, 40 Rajendra Bind 47, Mahendra Bind, 45, Laxman Bind and Amarnath Bind, residents of Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh.

The gang becomes active when raw material is taken from one factory to another and the stolen material is sent through receivers in different states. The raw material taken out is replaced with starch/ salt/ calcium/, thus causing deterioration in the quality of medicines. The medicine mafia and godown watchman are hand in glove for thefts from godowns. Even the tempo and truck drivers and cleaners are hand in glove with them, making it easy to divert the truck to mafia godowns.

There are also informers in the gang that gives inputs based on which the gang commits loot/ robbery of raw materials. From 25 kg drums, 7 to 8 kg raw materials are taken out and the material is replaced with salt, calcium, starch powder.
The drums are then sealed as they were originally in a way that the adulterated part falls in the middle part of the drum. It is a practice that the samples in the factories are always taken from top for test and thus the consignment passes the quality tests, but in fact the adulterated raw material goes to medicine making, confessed the accused Ramlagan Pandey and Laxman Bind.
