Crime Detection Branch of Nagpur Police has succeeded in finding and reuniting 16,174 missing persons with their families in last three years. Total 18,338 persons were reported missing from Nagpur between January 2015 and February 28, 2018. Though, the success rate is fairly high, the Police are yet to find out 2,164 missing persons including young girls and boys. The increasing missing complaints has created fear about large scale human trafficking from orange city. The Police has taken all the cases seriously and special squads have been constituted to trace these missing persons especially young kids.


This information was obtained by activist Abhay Kolarkar, from Nagpur Police under Right to Information (RTI) Act. Every year, more than 100 girls are reported missing from Nagpur, but due to alertness displayed by investigating machinery, close to 90 percent are traced and brought back to their homes. However, despite their best efforts, the Police are still in search of 54 boys and 87 girls reported missing. There are case of missing senior citizen, in many cases due to dementia and other health related issues. In three years, Police received missing complaints of 677 senior citizens. The Police claimed that so far they have failed to find whereabouts of 1,065 persons but their search operation is still going on.


The Nagpur Police launched Operation Smile and Operation Muskan and 28 minor boys and 36 minor girls were found.
