Five policemen among 22 held for gambling in Char Imli

As many as 22 persons including 5 police constables of battalions were arrested by Habibganj police for gambling in posh Char Imli area on Wednesday.According to SHO of Habibganj, Virendra Chouhan, they used to gather at Upant Colony at Char Imli on weekends to play card and gamble money. Following a tip-off by local residents, a raid was conducted in the late evening hours of Wednesday and 22 persons were arrested with Rs 1.10 lakh in cash. A pack of cards has also been seized from them.

As per information, the group used to gather here at the house of an IPS officer who is presently in Delhi on deputation and cops have been getting complaints about the gatherings from local residents. The accused were caught red-handed while gambling during the road. They came from well-to-do families and five constables are also arrested and have been booked under the Gambling Act. STF jawan Parashar was facilitating the gambling. The battalions concerned have been informed about the involvement of their personnel.

However the police denied from the fact that gambling den was busted at the residence of senior police officer and claimed that they were arrested from near a tea shop at Jyotiba Phule Nagar. On the other hand, names of arrested accused could not be ascertained as the process of filing an FIR was underway till the time of filing of report.
