‘TRIFED to open Van Dhan centres to improve livelihood of tribals’

To enhance the income of tribals, Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) has decided to open Van Dhan centres in thirteen districts of Madhya Pradesh. Van Dhan centres will be opened in Badwani, Mandla, Vidisha, Guna, Raisen, Jhabua etc.Addressing the press conference here, Managing Director of TRIFED, Praveer Krishna told that as many as 3,000 Van Dhan centres will be opened in country and thirteen such centres will come up in Madhya Pradesh. One centre will have strength of 300 people which will collect and store and even sell the minor forest produce. Under this scheme, emphasis would be for value addition so that income of tribals could be increased. However, group would have tribals and non-tribals in certain ratio. Working capital of Rs 1 lakh would be provided to each group or centre apart from Rs 1.5 lakh for equipment and other necessary things. Facility of storing forest produce in cold storage centres will be also provided.
This initiative is likely to increase the income of tribals by two to three times.

A close watch would be kept on these centres and after one year, it will be seen that which centres are running well and which are not working properly. The non-working groups will be taken in second phase of scheme and reasons would be seen that why these groups have failed to work properly. In the meantime, he also highlighted the achievements of TRIFED in 2017-18. He also informed that Indian boxer Mary Kom has given her consent to become brand ambassador of TRIFED. Moreover, TRIFED is also taken the help of online market to sell the tribal products.
