Vivechana’s ‘Mahabrahman’ wins hearts

PLAY ‘Mahabrahman’ depicts story of a revolutionary young man who fought against casteism and orthodox traditions related to social respect and restrictions. The act expressed anger and resentment on violation of fundamental rights in the name of tradition and culture of people living in the society.


The play was staged under Natya Nirantar programme of Vivechana Theatre group under the banner of Mahakoshal Shaheed Smarak Trust, Cultural Cell, on Saturday. ‘Mahabrahman’ play is written by Premchand Gajbi and directed by Vasant Kashikar and dialogues in Hindi are written by Anurga Dev. It brought out outrage in youth against reservation in the society. The story is based on ‘Mahabrahman’ who usually performed last rites and related works. They are Brahmans but were treated as untouchables. The struggle to build social respect continued by Siddheshwar’s family who were even socially boycotted, tortured for questioning social system.


Director Vasant Kashikar kept the story intact while showing ire and resentment of youth. Young actors were remarkable. Cast of the play Badrish Pandey and Shubham Pandey and Vishwanarayan Pandey enthralled one and all.


As son of Siddheshwar, Somnath Shrivastava gathered appreciation. Other artists who won hearts were Omprakash Sahu, Raj Soni, Lokesh Yadav, Vikas Kumar, Sahil Sethi, Arpan Samuel, Raj Malviya, Utkarsh Yadav and others. In the play, voice of playback singer Abhas Joshi and Sharad Verma of Mumbai were also used.


At the end, artists were introduced by Director Vasant Kashikar and Himanshu Rai proposed a vote of thanks.
