According to National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT-RR), the institute is committed to challenging task of development of technical education by preparing seasoned graduates in field of engineering and technology. But, the question is whether the NIT Raipur will be able to achieve this goal with shortage of staff to nearly 50 per cent.According to information sought under Right to Information, the sanctioned strength of teaching and non-teaching staff for the NIT Raipur was 559 as on March 30, 2018. However, the working strength as on this date was only 256. In this way, number of posts lying vacant was 219. However, the NIT did not provide the reason behind the vacancies in such large numbers and efforts being made by the institute to fill the vacant posts. When asked, NIT Raipur Director Dr A M Rawani and Registrar In-Charge P Y Dhekne referred the matter to PIO and Assistant Registrar saying everything was good at the institute.

Meanwhile, Professor Manavendra Tripathi, media in-charge, told this newspaper that recruitment is a continuous process at NIT Raipur. “We just cannot recruit anyone. Unless we get a suitable candidate we cannot give permanent appointment. However, we don’t let the study of our students get hampered as we hire contract teachers,” Tripathi said.
Process to recruit 26 Assistant Professors and 44 Associate Professors has been initiated against the 219 vacancies and it will be completed within a month or two, Tripathi said, adding, non-teaching staff is also being appointed. Attempt is being made to appoint 50 per cent of the vacancies soon, said Tripathi. “As far as quality of the education is concerned, we never compromise with it,” assured Tripathi.
