In the latest online Aptitude Test conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), has revealed that Commerce is the top pick for the students from across the State who took the test. As far as Vidarbha region is concerned, Commerce and Fine Arts are the top picks for students.

In fact, the results of the online Aptitude Test released recently by Vinod Tawde, Education Minister, bring to fore that Nagpur Division tops the State as far as students giving top preference to Commerce stream is concerned. Interestingly, it is followed by Amravati Division. Twenty-six per cent and 24 per cent of the students from Nagpur Division from Amravati Division respectively chose Commerce. In numbers, total 32,126 students from Nagpur Division and 31,288 from Amravati Division showed inclination towards Commerce. Together, total 63,414 students from Vidarbha region expressed interest in making a career in Commerce sector.

If only Vidarbha students are to be considered, total 2,57,330 from 11 districts under Nagpur and Amravati Divisions took the test. Of them, the highest 25 per cent picked Commerce as their top choice, followed by Fine Arts (18 per cent), Technical Education and Uniformed Services (14 per cent each), Health Sciences (11 per cent), and Agriculture and Arts (10 per cent each).

Commerce stream -- which is the top pick this year -- comprises insurance, banking, management, cost and management accountancy, chartered accountancy, company secretary, hospitality etc. Given the increasing economic activity and growth of hospitality industry, and growing investment of the Government and foreign agencies in infrastructure development in Vidarbha, it has come as no surprise that students from the region have picked Commerce as their top career choice.

The Aptitude Test conducted in 2017 had revealed that Fine Arts was the top choice of students. This year, Fine Arts is the second top pick of students from Vidarbha region. Fine Arts stream comprises a bouquet of choices including animation, architecture, fashion, game designing, graphic design, beauty and wellness care, music, web designing, choreography, home science etc.

Interestingly, after Commerce and Fine Arts, Vidarbha students have preferred Technical Education. However, students from Amravati Division have preferred Uniformed Services more than Technical Education. Health Sciences, Agriculture, and Arts are the next picks for students from the region.

The online Aptitude Test is conducted by MSBSHSE to check students’ inclination towards streams like Commerce, Arts, Health Sciences, Technical Education, Agriculture, and Fine Arts. A total of 17,36,104 students who appeared for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Class X examination conducted by MSBSHSE took the Aptitude Test. The Board has released clear results of 12,53,770 students. Of these students, 2,63,207 showed interest in Commerce, followed by 2,23,681 evincing interest in Fine Arts, 1,82,268 in Uniformed Services, 1,66,025 in Agriculture, 1,53,146 in Health Sciences, 1,42,289 in Arts, and 1,23,154 in Technical Education.
