SBC Chairman Upadhyay rubbishes charges levelled by advocates

Brushing aside the allegations levelled against him by some fellow advocates, Chairman, State Bar Council Shivendra Upadhyay, on Monday said they were trying to mislead fellow members. Upadhyay said, the Council is working for the welfare of advocates and he has made no compromise with the Government even though the State Government has made numerous announcements for benefit of advocates in the State.Addressing a press conference, Upadhyay said the State Bar Council had decided to felicitate Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan just because of Government’s kindheartedness towards legal fraternity. He said the Government has vowed to implement Advocate Protection Act soon in the State. It will present the Bill in the coming Monsoon Session of the Assembly. Besides, he said, the Chief Minister has announced for making provision of amount for construction of e-library for advocates in the budget. He has also announced increment in maximum limit of funds for treatment of serious ailments for advocates to Rs 5 lakh.
While in case of untimely death, Rs 4 lakh will be given to the family members of the deceased advocates, which will include Rs 2 lakh by the State Government and Rs 2 lakh by the Bar Council.

Upadhyay said, the State Government would make 50 percent matching grant for construction of advocate chamber. The grant given to new advocates will be increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000.He said, though some advocates had tried to put thorns in the way of getting redressed advocates’ problems, but their attempt was in vain. He said, the State Bar Council congratulates the advocates, who gave no ear to baseless talks and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Council.State Bar Council member Sammati Saini, Jagannath Tripathi and others were also present on the occasion.
