The new CM given 15 days to prove majority

GOVERNOR Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday invited BJP legislature party leader B S Yeddyurappa to form the Government in Karnataka, capping a day of intense jockeying for power and allegations by the Congress of bribery and horse-trading against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I invite you (Yeddyurappa) to form the Government and be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka,” a Raj Bhavan communique said.
Vala also asked 75-year-old Yeddyurappa to seek a vote of confidence within 15 days of assuming office as the Chief Minister. Briefing reporters, BJP General Secretary Muralidhar Rao said Yeddyurappa will take oath here on Thursday at 9 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah are unlikely to attend the oath ceremony, according to BJP sources.
Earlier, the newly-elected Karnataka BJP legislators elected B S Yeddyurappa as their leader and he soon staked claim to form the Government though the party is eight seats short of a majority in the Assembly.

“We have staked claim to form the Government as the single largest party with 104 newly-elected legislators,” Yeddyurappa told reporters after meeting Governor Vajubhai R Vala at Raj Bhavan.
H D Kumaraswamy, the leader of the newly formed JD(S)-Congress alliance had earlier met Vala and staked claim to form the Government. “We have the right numbers in a 224-member Assembly”, he claimed.

Meanwhile in a tweet, Congress leader P. Chidambaram accused Governor Vajubhai Vala of acting like a “BJP puppet” and allowing the BJP to “manufacture” a majority in 15 days.
Congress sources also indicated, they may take to streets if the Cong-JD(S) alliance is not allowed to form the Government.
