7 troopers killed as Naxals blow up vehicle in C’garh

SEVEN troopers were killed and one sustained critical injuries when Maoists triggered an IED blast in restive Dantewada district on Sunday morning. The ultras also looted arms and weapons including 2 AK-47, 2 SLR, 4 Insaas and two hand grenades.


As per information from police, the critically-injured trooper was first rushed to Apollo Hospital, Bacheli but looking into his condition he was airlifted to Raipur but unfortunately he succumbed to injuries during treatment in a private hospital. The attack took place on a day when Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh is scheduled to arrive in the State.
Police sources believe that the attack was in retaliation to the recent encounters in Gadchiroli (Maharashtra), Malkangiri (Odisha) and Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), where Maoists suffered major casualties.Combing operations have been intensified in the area following the attack, the official said.


Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (Anti-Naxal Ops) GN Baghel informed that a Mahindra XUV carrying seven security personnel was passing through a forested patch on Bacheli-Cholnar road, some 55 kms away from Dantewada district headquarters, when it reached near a culvert, ultras  blew up the vehicle by triggering a heavy (50 Kg) IED blast. The impact of the blast was so severe that five of the personnel were killed on the spot while another succumbed to injuries during preliminary treatment at a hospital in Kirandul. Another critically- injured personnel was airlifted to Raipur but he also succumbed to injuries during treatment. As per ASP, the personnel were deployed on security of under-construction Bacheli-Cholnar road. They were returning from Jagargunda.


The impact of the blast triggered by Naxals was so severe that the vehicle was tossed up to 15 feet and blown to pieces, creating 10 feet deep pit. After the blast, security personnel retaliated heavily forcing the Red rebels to flee towards forest. The martyred security personnel were identified as District Force’s Head Constable Ram Kumar Yadav, Constable Tikeswar Dhurav, Assistant Constable Saligram, Vikram Yadav, Constable Rajesh Singh, Constable Varindra Nath and Constable Arjun Rajvar.


Confirming the martyrdom of seven troopers, DIG (Anti Naxal Ops) Sunderraj P informed that after the incident, alert had been sounded in the entire region and patrolling intensified. It needs to be mentioned here that the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh will be addressing a public meeting as part of his Vikas Yatra in Bacheli on May 22.

Governor, Union Home Minister, CM condemn Naxal attack : GOVERNOR Balramji Dass Tandon and Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh condemned the IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast triggered by Maoists resulting into killing of seven personnel of Chhattisgarh police. near village Cholnar, in Dantewada district. Extending his deep condolence to the martyred security personnel, the Governor expressed his deep sympathy for their family members. Rajnath Singh, who reached Ambikapur on Sunday to attend the passing out parade of CRPF Bastaria Battalion.
