‘Introduce automation, robotics in every foundry’

THE Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), Nagpur Chapter organised a programme on ‘Fettling Shop Automation’ recently. The programme was organised under the guidance of Anuja Sharma, Chairperson of IIF, Nagpur Chapter.R G Paranjape, Vice-Chairman of IIF Nagpur Chapter, Sushil Sharma, Chairman Western Region and guest of honour, Gautam Roy, Secretary, IIF Nagpur Chapter and Saurabh Mohta, Joint Secretary were present on the dias along with the main speaker Mahesh Sahastrabuddhe, General Manager of Grindmaster, Aurangabad.


Anuja Sharma said, “There is a need to introduce automation and robotics to improve productivity in every foundry.” She said that with the onset of the fourth industrial revolution, domestic foundries need to increase productivity and stay competitive. She also highlighted that fettling shop was very important area and should not be neglected in any foundry.
The speaker for the session Sahastrabuddhe, spoke largely on the safety concerns and health hazards of conventional grinding practices and the benefits of the automated grinding. He shared several case studies and examples describing the best results and practices associated with grinding automation and its acceptance in the demand for technology upgradation of foundries. The examples included the improvement in productivity and continuity during the de-burring process. He explained the intelligence of machines and technology reducing the requirement of skill at the ground level and noiseless working in foundries. He pointed out the possibilities of grinding needs which the new upcoming machines can handle.


Gautam Roy, gave the summing up remarks. There were many queries and questions from the members and all members gave a positive feedback on the session quoting that it gave a new outlook to them for their foundries. The programme was conducted by Saurbh Mohta.
