Man arrested with over 74 lakh cash, gold biscuits

RAIPUR

Railway Protection Force Crime Intelligence Branch Raipur, while acting on a tip off, apprehended one person and recovered cash of about Rs 75 lakh and 230 gram of gold biscuits from his possession. The total estimated value of catch is about one crore. As per information received from RPF officials, the person has been identified as Devendra Behera (43) a resident of Kantabhanji. He reached Raipur by Puri-Durg Intercity Express from Kantabhanji.

RPF intelligence already had inputs about the movement of person with huge cash, during inspection of the baggage police recovered cash Rs 74,98,700 all in the denominations of Rs 2000 and 500 currency and gold biscuits. Devendra Behera failed to give details about the cash and gold. However, the case has been handed over to Income Tax Department officials and further investigation is in progress.
Divisional Security Commissioner, Anurag Meena informed that on duty staff Karmapal Singh Gurjar, Sub Inspector in CIB, RPF apprehended the suspect who was trying to escape from Durg end of platform when the train arrived at platform number three. During investigation he informed that his father Punam Chand Agrawal, a resident of Katabhanji, Odisha had given him and he was going to hand over the cash and gold to Harikishan Agrawal, a resident of Samta Colony. RPF has informed the matter to I-T Department and further investigation is in progress.
