Business Bureau,

The Indian National Mineworkers Federation (INMF) affiliated to Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) smells a rat in the Coal Ministry’s recent initiative of launching mobile app for monitoring the movement of the black gold. Soon after Piyush Goyal, Union Coal Minister launched the app, S Q Zama, Secretary General, INMF said that the app was lunched to justify the Ministry’s move to allow private companies in the field of commercial mining. “I think that it is all fabricated to justify privatisation,” Zama said.

He said that despite of strong opposition to privatisation of commercial mining, the Government is not only favouring it but the policy makers are also taking steps to promote it.
It is important to note that all the five operating Central Trade Unions (CTUs) had recently opposed the move and had also served notices on Secretary (Coal) for strike. However, on assurance of discussion the matter with CTUs, the strike was deferred.

Zama said that INMF is firm on its stand to oppose commercial mining by private companies and it is communicating with coal workers and other CTUs for ‘Joint Action Programme’ including blockage of coal dispatch and disruption in production. Besides, the INMF is also thinking it term of observing total strike in coming days. According to an official statement, the app will provide a summary of quantity of coal dispatched along with grades for the given day, month, and the latest yearly updates.
