Shyam Benegal, Manoj Verma receive Kishore Sahu Memorial National Award

Eminent film director and screenplay writer Shyam Benegal and eminent Chhattisgarhi film director and screenplay writer Manoj Verma were honoured with first ‘Kishore Sahu Memorial National Award’ in a function at Padma Shri Govind Ram Nirmalkar auditorium at Rajnandgaon on Friday. Shyam Benegal was honoured with the award for his contribution in Hindi film direction while Manoj Verma was given the award for his creative script writing and direction in Chhattisgarhi cinema. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh was the chief guest at the function. Minister for Culture and Tourism Dayal Das Baghel presided over the function.


The awards were given away at the hands of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh recalled the contributions of Kishore Sahu for Indian cinema. In his address, Shyam Benegal said that Chhattisgarh has rich culture and folk values. Benegal said that he had visited remote areas in Durg district for film making. Culture Minister Dayal Das Baghel also spoke. Padma Shri Surendra Dubey recited poems on the occasion. Rajnandgaon MP Abhishek Singh, screenplay writer and lyricist Ashok Mishra, television actor Raghubir Yadav, actor Vikram Sahu, film director Jayant Deshmukh, Rajnandgaon Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, Secretary of Culture DepartmentNiharika Barik, Director Jitendra Shukla, Collector Bhim Singh, Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal, Zila Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Chandan Kumar, Speaker of Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation Shiv Verma, Janpad Panchyat President Sarita Kannoje, Shobha Soni and others attended the function.
