Four nabbed for betting on IPL match, Rs 3.80 lakh seized

A Joint team of Central Crime Branch and Azaad Chowk Police Station seized Rs 3.80 lakh as they arrested four men for accepting bets on IPL match at Samta Colony, Azad Chowk.
Raipur Police is on hyper drive to curb the mushroomed betting centres in different areas of the City.


CCB was once again seen in action when they got a tip-off about betting at Azad Chowk. Synergising with the Azad Chowk Police Station, CCB raided the suspected home, where accused Ashwani Sharma, Rahul Khandelwal, Jai Khandelwal and Mohit Khomni were taken into custody.
Police also confiscated cash, 3 laptops, 8 cell phones and betting slips.


The accused men were taking bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians. Prior to the IPL Season, the accused were running the betting business in Mumbai and Goa. However, they escaped to Raipur after the police actions in Mumbai and Goa.
All four of them have been booked under Section 4A of the Gambling Act.
