Chirmiri-Rewa train collides with truck at crossing, 2 hurt

A MAJOR tragedy was averted at a railway crossing after a Rewa bound train 51754 Chirmiri-Rewa passenger collided with a truck at around 4.30 am on Sunday. The incident took place near Turki station situated around 20 kms from Rewa in Satna-Rewa section of Jabalpur division. No casualty was reported in the incident, however loco pilot Sanjay Shrivastava and his assistant Nirbhay Kumar sustained serious injuries and the locomotive was badly damaged. Following the mishap, traffic in Satna-Rewa section was hit for five hours and was restored in the afternoon. Had the gate man locked the crossing gate then the mishap could have been averted.

As the gate man failed to lock the crossing gate number 180, a truck crossing the track was badly hit by the locomotive. As the train was in great speed, the loco pilot could not apply emergency brakes to avoid the collision. In the mishap, the truck was divided into two halves. The collision was so intense that the locomotive was badly damaged. Fortunately, no casualty was reported however passengers panicked after they felt a major jolt after the collision.

Train 51754 Chirmiri-Rewa passenger bound for Rewa met with an accident just 20 kilometers before its destination. The train had started from Turki station in Satna-Rewa section of Jabalpur division. After having started from Turki station there is level gate number 180. Deputy Station Superintendent Turki had informed the gate man to lock the gate as the train had started from Turki station. The gate man failed to comply with the orders issued by Deputy SS and the mishap took place. Soon after the mishap, cops from Rewa along with the rescue team and Ambulance 108 reached the spot. The injured crew members were rushed to Rewa Hospital.

The injured are undergoing treatment and their condition is reported to be stable. Top brass reached the spot and monitored the rescue operation. Another locomotive was sent to the accident spot and the train was taken to Rewa station. Sources informed that the mishap was an outcome of the gate man’s negligence. A probe has been ordered in the mishap as further details are awaited.
