Two children killed as water tank collapses

Two innocent children were killed and one sustained severe injuries as a water tank fell on the ground trapping all of them here on Sunday morning in village Kharra under Gunderdehi block in Balod district.

The injured was rushed to Gunderdehi primary health centre. Pall of gloom descended over the village. The villagers were demanding an FIR against Sarpanch and panchs.
According to the report, on Sunday morning, the Kharra village children had gone to take bath near newly-built water tank. All of a sudden the water tank collapsed, trapping the innocent children identified as Durga (10), Nishu (8) and Pankaj (12).

The trapped children were extricated. Pankaj and Durga had breathed their last and Nishu was immediately rushed to Gundardehi primary health centre for treatment.
Villagers had raised their fingers at the sub-standard water tank construction but the Sarpanch and panchs did not listen to them.

Peeved at the incident, villagers gheraoed Gunderdehi police station, demanding strict action against Sarpanch and panchs.
After the incident, Sarpanch and Panchs reached the police station. Meanwhile, DCP and SDM also reached the police station and calmed down the irate villagers.Government announced Rs 4 lakh each compensation to the next kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, DSP Balod Anurag Jha said that investigation was going on, action would be taken against those found guilty.
SDM Gundardehi said that the investigation report would be sent to district administration. Rs 4 lakh each compensation would be given to the next kin of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Gundardehi MLA Rajendra Rai termed the incident as unfortunate. He gave Rs 5000 to each family for immediate relief in performing their last rites.

CM condoles death of kids

Chief Minister express his deep condolence on the death of two children after an under-construction over-head tank collapsed in village Kharra under Gunderdehi development block in Balod district. He directed the district administration to carry out a detailed investigation into the incident and take necessary action. He also asked the administration to provide all kind of assistance to the family members of children. Taking serious cognizance of the incident, the Chief Minister directed the PHE department and all other agencies engaged in construction work of water supply infrastructure should ensure about the quality of construction. He also directed that in the construction works carried out by any agency it should be ensured that all quality and safety norms are adhered during the construction process. He said any kind of negligence will not be bothered and strict action will be taken against such persons.
