BPCL transporter, four others detained in connection with furnace oil theft case

Special Investigation Unit of Durg Police has detained five persons, all Bhilai residents including a transporter of BPCL in connection with furnace oil theft case reported from Tedesara of Rajnandgaon district last month. The authorized transporter of the BPCL, Naresh Kumar Mathur had shockingly given his yard on rent for adulterating the costly furnace oil and the police have also established involvement of Santosh Gupta in the crime, who had taken the yard on rent.

Although the police succeeded in cracking the furnace oil theft case while busting the entire racket but it is yet to ascertain since when the theft of oil from truck tankers was going on and the stolen oil was sold to whom.
It is worth mentioning that on April 22, the Durg Police had caught one person Shashi Yadav while recovering two oil truck tankers from Medesara. During investigations it was revealed that the accused used to mix black oil in the tanker containing furnace oil by diverting the vehicle’s route.

The tanker (CG-12 C-3087) originating from Raipur (Lakholi) was supposed to deliver the furnace oil in CSEB’s power plant at Madwa (Janjgir-Champa) but it was diverted to Tedesara (Rajnandgaon) where the accused used to mix black oil into the furnace oil owing to which the government incurred financial loss of crores of rupees. The Special Investigation Unit, constituted on IG GP Singh’s directives, intensified its investigation and made efforts to arrest the alleged transporter Naresh Kumar Mathur, who was absconding since the tanker was seized.
During investigations it was revealed that Santosh Gupta, who is having past crime records, was involved in the case attracting criminal breach of trust and he had taken Naresh Kumar Mathur alias Chunnu’s yard on rent, where furnace oil from three to four tankers were stolen on daily basis.
Santosh Gupta also owned Neha Transport Company through which he was obtaining transporting contracts from Indian Oil, BPCL and Hindustan Petroleum. He used to send his transport manager and drivers for committing the crime of adulterating the furnace oil. The shocking revelations were made by Naresh Mathur during interrogations before the police. Naresh was arrested by the police from Raipur Railway Station.

The arrested accused include Naresh alias Chunnu Mathur, Santosh Gupta, son of Shivnandan Gupta; Vinit Kumar Gupta, s/o Madan Prasad; Raja Shrivas, s/o Ram Naresh and Chandrashekhar, s/o Lakhanlal Dewangan, all residents of Camp-1, Bhilai. Police have also received vital inputs regarding the illicit trade of the furnace oil and the probe may soon lead to arrest of some more persons. DSP SS Sharma; constables from the special investigation unit Arvind Kumar Sharma and Rinku Soni played pivotal role in cracking the case.
