Staff Reporter,

Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized a parcel containing diamonds, gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 20 lakh. The said material was allegedly being smuggled in parcel van of Duronto Express and seized on Thursday at platform no. 8 of Nagpur Railway Station early morning.

It was a tip off that led the CIB team to keep watch on the material being unloaded from the parcel van on Thursday.
Inspector B D Ippar and his team noticed a mid sized packet which appeared incoherent with the material transported in parcel van. Inquires with staff attending the parcel van revealed that the said parcel was booked for M/s Courier Logistic Services and CIB staff called the latter’s representatives to the RPF post at Nagpur Railway Station.

The courier agency representative was asked about the material inside to which he stated that it contained artificial jewellery but could not produce supportive documents. The CIB team briefed Jyotikumar Satija, Sr. Divisional Security Commandant, RPF, Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, about the seizure. Satija in turn talked to Income Tax officials who were informed about the action and asked to send its representative.

The CIB team, thereafter, opened the sealed box in front of IT officials and found gold and silver ornaments studded with diamonds.

The value of the ornaments is pegged at Rs 19.75 lakh. The box contained diamond studded ornaments whose cost is pegged at Rs 2.79 lakh, gold ornaments valued at over Rs 13.96 lakh and artificial ornaments made using silver worth over Rs 2.35 lakh.

Further probe is being conducted by IT Department.
The CIB team consisted of Head Constables Vijay Patil, D D Wankhede and Sheshrao Lambat, and constables Kishor Choudhari and Neelkanth Gore.
