ON SECOND day of the nationwide strike, bank employees stage demonstration in support of their demands in the State capital and other parts of State. Banking services remained paralysed and common people faced many difficulties. Agitating bank employees demanded under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions. They said that they were up in arms to protest against delay in salary review by Indian Bank Association, against the Government’s cold attitude over their plight and more importantly they are angry over proposed two per cent salary hike.

They demanded that there should be adequate hike in salary and amendment to other facilities. As many as 4,000 bank employees gathered at State Bank of India’s main office and staged demonstration. They were carrying placards in their hands and were raising slogans. Talking on salary issue, speakers told that United Forum of Bank Unions had given its demand letter to Indian Bank Association and so far, 15 rounds of talks have taken place between both sides. Later, bank management proposed meager 2 per cent salary hike which was rejected by their unions. Bank officials want respectable salary scale.
