Delhi man dupes RS member Dr Mahatme of Rs 1.55 lakh

Dr Mahatme had sent a cheque to the accused for purchase of two machines. He encashed the cheque without delivering the machines


Dhantoli police have booked a Delhi-based man for defrauding Member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vikas Mahatme to the tune of
Rs 1.55 lakh.


According to police, Dr Mahatme, a resident of Plot No 16, Central Excise Colony, Wardha Road and Director of Mahatme Eye Hospital, had seen a ‘Wool Shearing Machine’ and ‘Claw Cutter’ on a website in November 2016. He contacted the seller and locked the deal.


As demanded by the accused, Dr Mahatme had sent a cheque of Rs 1.55,027 lakh to accused Rakesh Sapru, a resident of F 12/2, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi on November 24, 2016. The accused had encashed the cheque without delivering the machines.


When Dr Mahatme stressed the accused to refund the money, he sent a cheque of Axis Bank that was bounced due insufficient funds. On the basis of complaint given by Dr Mahatme, Dhantoli Police have registered the case under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code. Sources informed that accused has switched off his mobile phone and went absconding after committing the fraud.
