City police also request for 698 additional vehicles for bandobast

City Police is ready with plans of bandobast for ensuing monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislature that will begin at Nagpur from July 4. Nagpur Police have requested office of Director General of Police (DGP) for additional force of 6,355 police personnel for bandobast, patrolling and morcha points duties.


Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP) Shivajirao Bodkhe informed The Hitavada that the force requirement letter was sent to DGP office after studying demand of the force for deployment at various points.


City police have requested for additional staff of 10 Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officials, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 70 Police Inspectors (PIs), 10 Women Police Inspectors, 225 APIs/PSIs, 60 WPSIs/WAPI, 1,800 constables, 200 women constables, 2,200 homeguards. Seven companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) will be deployed at sensitive points.


Around 300 personnel will be deployed in the civil dress as ‘watchers’. This includes 50 APIs/PSIs, 200 constables, 50 personnel from Anti-Naxal Cell.
DCP (SB) Smartna Patil informed that more than 270 personnel of traffic branch would be pulled from various police units of the State. Traffic police have requested for five ACPs, 15 PIs, 50 APIs/PSIs and 200 constables.


DCP Patil also added that morcha points would be decided in the meetings of senior officials. It may be mentioned that this would be the fourth time that the monsoon session of the State Legislature, normally held in Mumbai, will take place at Nagpur, which has been hosting the Winter Session. Monsoon Sessions were held at Nagpur in 1961, 1966, and 1971.
Besides the vehicles available with city police, the cops need 698 vehicles for patrolling, transportation and bandobast duties.
