At last after delay of two months, Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) has submitted Detailed Project Report (DPR) of proposed second phase of Nagpur Metro Project to Maha Metro. This will boost transport facilities in rural area of Nagpur district as it will add 48.3 kms in present metro network. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 10,500 crore.

The proposal will be forwarded to State Government and then to Central Government for approval.
A senior officer said, the extension of Nagpur Metro would not require depot for the maintenance of coaches as Hingna and Khapri depots are sufficient for it. The new network will not require power supply sub-stations as Sitabuldi and Rani Jhansi Square sub-stations suffice the need for entire network.

Sources claimed that Maha Metro will also seek funding from France and Germany for second phase of the project. The Metro will also use its present staff in second phase. The Phase II covers the rural parts of Nagpur district and will serve as an extension to the ongoing first phase. The proposed phase will be spread over 48.3 km length with 33 stations. The entire Phase II network is proposed to be elevated and will be executed in 4 years after DPR gets Government’s nod.
