Staff Reporter,

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has condoled the death of Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Pandurang Fundkar describing him as a long time associate. He also added that he was shocked to hear about the demise of his friend.

The following is the full text of Purohit’s condolence message:

“With the sad and sudden demise of Maharashtra’s Agriculture Minister Shri Pandurang Fundkar due to heart attack, I have lost a long-time associate in public career that has spanned nearly fifty years. Shri Fundkar was one of those rare leaders who new the public pulse very well, since he worked for the people all along, beyond any personal gain or credit. He knew only one mantra: keep working for the people, and they will work for you. His long and illustrious public life bears a strong testimony to this truth for which he worked all his life. It was this faith in people and himself that took Shri Fundkar higher and higher in public esteem as well as in other attainments. He was a public personality in a true sense.

“The most endearing characteristic of Shri Fundkar’s personality was his simplicity. Despite his meritorious public career, he never bragged, nor did he ever feel that he was invincible. Fully aware of vagaries of politics that may take people to great height or push them down into a dump, Shri Fundkar always stayed in a strong connect with his constituents. He knew the people, he knew their problems, and he also had a good idea of how to solve the problems with tangible solutions.

“That was the reason Shri Fundkar was a darling of one and all. Even though he was in politics, he maintained friendship with people on the other side of the divide, carrying no biases, no grudges. During his generally highly successful career in public life, Shri Fundkar met with a few setbacks as well. But he remained undeterred, and continued with his belief in his own values and virtues. He held high positions in Government, the last being his portfolio of agriculture. Shri Fundkar knew farmers’ issues very well and often offered solutions that amazed others, thanks to their clarity of approach.

“We worked together for several years. shared public platforms, led people’s movements, and made our contribution to larger public good. During all those years of working together, Shri Fundkar came across as a genuine man with sincere commitment to people’s welfare. “His end came suddenly as he suffered a massive heart attack. All of us -- friends -- now remain heart-broken, having lost an associate of long years. “May his family have the courage to endure the loss. “May his soul rest in peace.”
