utter shame

IF SOME political party had not raised the issue of freedom to Kashmir at this stage, it would have been a surprise. For, the manner in which the Centre has begun implementing its ideas to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) through Governor’s Rule, has led to some elements getting terribly upset for the fear of getting exposed. Out of that frustration that their dirty designs would be crushed from now on, they have started stating that the people of Kashmir want freedom.

That two Congress leaders, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mr. Saifuddin Soz are airing this ugly and anti-national thought, however, does not come as a surprise. So dirty a hold has politics taken on the minds of some elements, of which there are in good numbers in Congress party, that they would not mind seeking something which the Indian nation has all along rejected. The very fact that two of Congress leaders have aired an undesirable, ungainly, and unacceptable thought, brings to the mind of average Indian people a sense of shame. For, flared by petty political agenda -- of causing further disturbance in Kashmir -- the two senior Congressmen have stated that the people of Kashmir want freedom. There could be no worse nonsense than this.

It is most unfortunate that these people have no sense of responsibility as citizens of India. When trouble has reached a dirty level in Kashmir, when even a Chief Minister ordered filing of First Information Reports against Armed Forces and Police personnel for doing their duty, when thousands of youngsters stormed out of their homes to pelt stones on security forces doing anti-terror operations, and when the Government is now trying to rectify the situation through Governor’s Rule, statement like ‘the people of Kashmir want freedom’ is naturally going to add to overall trouble rather than not.

We are sure that the two Congressmen know what the repercussions would accrue from their statements. Despite this, they made such inflammatory statements only to add to the trouble in Kashmir and not an intent of seeking a solution to the ticklish issue at hand. This is absolutely reprehensible.

For record, Mr. Saifuddin Soz said that he was airing his own personal views and that the Congress party may not subscribe to those. But even a little kid in the street would know that the man is playing purposefully foul. If he holds such views -- on a personal ground -- then he needs to be booked for seditious thought. And if Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, too, wants to join the dirty design, then he also deserves to be booked immediately.

For those who propagate anti-national thoughts, only such a treatment is absolutely due.
The nation has seen what kind of flip-flop the Congress party and its Government indulged in as regards Kashmir from the moment Kashmir acceded to India. A smart action by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, then Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India, certainly saved the situation for India. But thenceforth, a train of blunders only kept making matters worse as regards Kashmir.

It is unfortunate that the Congress party is still harbouring undesirable elements in its ranks. In fact, the current situation calls for a most urgent sacking of the two men by the Congress party since they indulged in something no sane Indian would ever do. There is no other way of handling such a crass political agenda. The Government, too, must act appropriately.
