Business Bureau,

IN A major achievement, the first import container rake from Krishnapatnam Port reached CONCOR’s ICD, Nagpur on Saturday. The inbound rake with 40 containers was carrying solar power equipments imported from China. This was announced by Anup Kumar Satpathy, Chief General Manager of CONCOR, ICD, Nagpur while speaking at a press conference here in the city today. The import container rake was flagged off from Krishnapatnam Port on May 29.

“In addition to this, another two rakes are expected within the next seven to eight days. We expect demand to pick up for the new rail service from Krishnapatnam Port to ICD, Nagpur. The container rake is carrying solar power equipments of three companies namely -- Mahindra Energy, Spring Solar and Acme Solar, which is planning to set up a 100 mega watt solar power plant in Rajasthan,” he said.

A large number of solar power plants are being set up in the country with a total installed capacity of 750 mega watt and all the equipments are being sourced and imported from China. It is estimated that the solar power plants will require 4,500 to 5,000 containers to bring the solar equipments from China. An exporter from central India can save 5 per cent to 10 per cent on logistic cost and five to seven days on transit time to export a consignment to any of the South Asian countries like China, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand instead of sending a container from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai. It takes about 55 hours for a rake to reach Krishnapatnam Port from ICD, Nagpur.

Huge quantity of goods like rice, cotton, ferro alloys and other products are exported from central India to South
Asian countries.

“Exporters should take advantage of CONCOR’s new rail service to Krishnapatnam Port which happens to be one of the fastest growing ports in the country. Located on the east coast of the country in Andhra Pradesh, Krishnapatnam Port is a gateway to South Asian countries and at a distance of about 950 kilometres from Nagpur,” he added.

On the occasion, Dr Pinky Baskey, Assistant Commissioner (Customs), Rajib Bhowal, General Manager, CONCOR, ICD, Nagpur, Arvind Kumar, Manager, CONCOR, ICD, Nagpur, Shashi Choudhary of MAERSK and Captain Bijay Shekhar of Krishnapatnam Port were present.
