Police confiscate 30-kg cannabis

In a major achievement Ratanpur Police intercepted a car near Madanpur and seized about 30-kilogram cannabis (Ganja) being transported from Odisha to Katni in Madhya Pradesh. Police also arrested two youths involved in the crime.


During interrogation the culprits confessed their crime and informed Police that they were involved in drug trafficking since a long time. Police seized the vehicle and registered an offence before starting investigations.


Ratanpur Police Station House Officer (SHO) Kapil Chandra told that on Friday evening, Ratanpur Police barricaded the main road near Khandoba Temple By-pass and started random checking of vehicles plying on the Bilaspur-Korba National Highway. During the checking they suddenly spotted a white coloured Tata Indigo car bearing number OD 14 B 3604 coming from Bilaspur direction. But before Police could intercept the vehicle, the driver took a U-turn and fled towards Bilaspur in full speed. Suspecting their activities, a team of Ratanpur Police chased the vehicle.


When the car reached near Madanpur, the driver while taking a sharp turn lost control from and the vehicle rammed into another vehicle parked on the roadside before overturning on the fields. After the incident, two youths Indrajit Nanda (24), son of Jagannath Nanda and Sumuti Ranjan Das (21), son of Vijay Das both residents of Rourkela in Sundergarh district, Odisha tried to escape from the spot. But cops gave a long chase and laid their hands on them.


Police also seized about 30-kilogram cannabis from the car which was being transported from Odisha to Katni in MP.
During interrogation the culprits confessed their crime and informed that they were involved in drug trafficking since a long time. Police seized the vehicle and registered an offence against the culprits under NDPS Act.
