RDA takes out candle march to support Dr Smriti Laharpure

Resident Doctors of AIIMS (RDA) Bhopal took out candle march and rally expressing condolence to Dr Smriti Laharpure on the premises of AIIMS Bhopal on Friday. RDA AIIMS Bhopal, Junior Doctor Association (JUDA) from Gandhi Medical College (GMC) Bhopal taken out rally and candle march showing support and condolence in favour of Dr Smriti Laharpure. Resident doctors demanded strict actions and CBI enquiry against the accused in Dr Smriti’s suicide case.


Dr Vishwas Gupta, President of Resident Doctor of AIIMS Bhopal said that Dr Smriti Laharpure a medical student who committed suicide injecting anesthesia overdose was facing continuous harassment and unregulated fee hike by the administration of Index Medical College, Indore. Dr Smriti was forced to commit suicide writing a four page suicide note. The suicide note had a clear message about the harassment she faced in the college but police department has not taken strong action or registered FIR against the culprits so far. He added that being a medical fraternity we resident doctors of AIIMS Bhopal are giving our support to victim’s family. We want to tell her family that medical fraternity is standing their back in their fight against injustice and lawlessness.


He said RDA demands police department to file FIR against the accused mentioned in the suicide note. They also demanded for strict fee regulating committee that should be accessible to every student without any fear. RDA also demanded state government to take necessary steps to prevent these kinds of unfortunate incidents in future. Notably, Dr Smriti’s Laharpure, 32, was a medical student who committed suicide at
Index Medical College Bhopal
on June 11.
