Special Correspondent,

Despite forest officials had said that tourism in buffer area of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) would remain open from July 1 during monsoon, they are now shirking responsibility. As on today, it is not certain whether buffer zone will be thrown open for tourism after two days.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, Forest Minister, had assured in a meeting of the stakeholders held on April 17 at the administrative building at Chandrapur that buffer tourism would remain open during monsoon and that tourism in core area would not be allowed during this period as per the guidelines of National Tiger Conservation Authority. A K Misra, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Mukul Trivedi, CCF and Field Director, TATR, and other authorities concerned were present in the meeting.

According to reliable sources, Misra has asked Trivedi to take independent decision about keeping buffer zone open for tourism from July 1, while Trivedi wanted to seek report from the Deputy Director (Buffer) about condition for opening the park. Tourists are insisting to allow them for jungle safari in buffer during monsoon, while the officials are still in dilemma and not ready to take up the responsibility. There is still doubt among tourists about it, sources added.

It is reliably learnt that Misra, Sunil Limaye, APCCF (Wildlife), East, Trivedi and Gajendra Nannaware, Deputy Director, TATR, (Buffer) had gone to Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary on Friday. Trivedi had called stakeholders at 3.30 pm at his office in Chandrapur. One of the stakeholders contacted him at 6 pm, when Trivedi refused to meet them and decide later. The officials are fearing to take action in the wake of blasting of the High Court on Wednesday in PIL challenging illegalalities in VIP entries and excessive tourism in Tadoba. The online booking for buffer jungle safari is closed now because of administrative problem.
