UPSC preliminary exam held amid tight security

Amidst tight security arrangements and strict regulations, the Preliminary Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was held on Sunday. At over 20 centres, aspirants appeared and submitted their paper. This year, a new amendment was made in examination system that aspirant has to give examination in particular centre as earlier, the aspirant could appear in any centre. On Sunday, under the supervision of over 20 coordinators, the examination was held in two shifts of morning and afternoon from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and in second shift, examination was held from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The entry to the examination hall was allowed only till 9.20 am and in second shift, ten minutes margin was kept for entrance in the examination hall. The rule was strictly followed in all the centres and no aspirant was allowed to enter the examination hall after 9.20 am. At the centres, the entrance gate were closed 10 minutes before the start of examination and participants were allowed to leave the centre after the finishing of the stipulated time of examination.

At the examination hall, the mobile phone, calculator, electronic gadgets, smart hand watches and body fitness band and other electronic equipment were totally restricted. The candidates were allowed to keep black ball pen as, this year, the OMR answer sheet has to be filled with black ball pen. It may be mentioned that as safety, security and to maintain proper vigilance on examination, the shops of Photo Stat copy, Fax and Cyber Café remained closed in periphery of 100 metres of the centre. The UPSC examination would be conducted in three phases. The Prelims is the first phase and the qualifiers would attend UPSC Mains and in third and last phase, the qualifiers would attend the interview. Through this examination, the selection of IAS, IPS, IFS and other government department officers is done.
