WRC holds exhibition on World Environment Day

“West Central Railway (WRC) adopted various environment friendly initiatives worth of Rs 13.66 crore. In this, Rs 6.67 crore in Jabalpur division, 3.25 crore in Bhopal and 3.74 crore in Kota divisions has been allotted. This year Railway is celebrating World Environment Day on the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. In order to create public awareness and generate support, initiatives were taken by Railways in series of events were organised at divisional headquarters, organising exhibitions at Railway stations” said Girish Pillai, General Manager, West Central Railway while addressing the press conference, on Tuesday.


Girish Pillai, GM WCR further added that WCR has taken various environment friendly initiatives like use of solar cell, LED lights, paperless charting, rain water harvesting plant installation as well as holding awareness drive for passengers across the Zone for support. He further added that out of which a total 28 projects are organised related to rain water harvesting, affluent treatment plant and railway ponds beautification and development. He further apprised that at Bhopal Station a plastic bottle crush machine is being installed. And by holding street plays, people are being aware about proper management of plastic in Railway premises and trains. Replying to a query about development of Jabalpur Gondia Railway line, Pillai added that work Jabalpur Gondia line is being carried out on priority and its electrification would be completed soon. He further added that survey for line between Jabalpur-Indore have also been completed and would be soon sent to the Railway Board for further approval.
WCR GM Girish Pillai, Additional General Manager Pradeep Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Dr Manoj Singh along with officials of Jabalpur division visited the exhibition on environmental conservation initiatives of Railways put up at Jabalpur Railway station.
