“Jabalpur is enriched with natural treasure of forest and biodiversity, but a major portion of greenery has been shrunk in the name of development. Another conspiracy of developing artificial attractions of zoo and tiger safari at Dumna Nature Park has surfaced to take undue advantage for political gains on the stake of forest. Legal fraternity of Jabalpur has unanimously decided to discard the project for protection of natural biodiversity of Nature Park. Social organisations and residents should come forward to protect the unique natural park, which is only of its kind within municipal limits in the country,” charged Manoj Sharma, President of High Court Advocates’ Bar Association, Jabalpur, while addressing a press conference, on Tuesday.

Manoj Sharma informed that amidst the spree of development works, Dumna Nature Park remains the only preserved wildlife habitat, which forms the lungs of Jabalpur city. No other city can boast of having around 1,500 acres preserved forest within municipal limits. He added that, along with fulfilling legal responsibilities to fight for the justice, legal fraternity of Jabalpur is also sensitive to protection of city and environment. In a bid to discard the anti-forest proposal, members of High Court Advocates Bar Association, Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association and Senior Advocates’ Council and District Bar Association, Jabalpur have come forward to register their protest and extended appeal towards residents to join the campaign of protection of Dumna Nature Park. Members of bar associations will hand over a memorandum addressing the Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Department, Principal Secretary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Collector Jabalpur and Commissioner, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation to discard the proposal otherwise they will stage a massive demonstration in near future.

Addressing the press conference, MP High Court Bar Association, President, Adarshmuni Trivedi also alleged the conspiracy of destroying natural biodiversity of Dumna Nature Park just for political gains and advocated to register a strong protest against the proposal of establishing zoo and tiger safari at Dumna Nature Park. Advocate, Shashank Shekhar and Advocate, R K Saini also registered their disappointment over the conspiracy of developing artificial attractions at natural place and declared for starting a massive campaign against it.
