Shuttler Priyanshu in Indian squad for Asia Junior Championship

MADHYA Pradesh’s player Priyanshu Rajawat will represent 21-member Indian Squad in Asia Junior Badminton Championship-2018 to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia, from July 14 to22. The team will leave for Jakarta on Wednesday after completion of a 15-day training camp in Bengaluru. Priyanshu will be representing India for the first time. Junior World No. 9 Lakshya Sen and World No. 11 Akarshi Kashyap will lead the Indian bandwagon in upcoming edition of Asia Junior Badminton Championship. The tournament will be played in mixed team format and individual championship.


Mixed team event will be played from July 14 to17, while individual competition starts from July 18 onwards. The tournament in its 21st year will see former junior world no. 1 Sen share responsibilities with young Priyanshu Rajawat who caught attention of selectors during pre-selection trial tournament held at Tirupur last month. India no. 1 Amar Farogh and no 3 Kiran George are in boys’ singles category, while Vaishnavi Jakka Reddy pulled out from the tournament; India no. 1 Akarshi Kashyap will be complemented by S Kavipriya in girls’ single competition. Young and talented doubles shuttlers including Manjit Singh Khwairakpam, Dingku Singh, Vishnuvardhan Goud and Sri Krishna Sai Kumar Podile will drive Indian charge in men’s doubles category, while Simran Singhi, Ritika Thaker, K Preethi and Shristhi Juppudi will lead challenge in girls’ doubles event. All the shuttlers featured in top four of pre-selection tournament that concluded before the team was selected for Indonesia. (Contd on page 2)
