BSNL Executive D P Wasnik felicitated for connecting 776 gram panchayats to NOFN

BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the only Government of India telecom company had been endowed with the responsibility of connecting the gram panchayats on High Speed Optical Fibre cables in order to bring rural India on internet highway to foster speedy growth of the nation. Nagpur District was chosen as a pilot district for this project popularly known as National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) or Bharatnet.


BSNL Nagpur has to its credit the record of connecting the entire district having 776 gram panchayats on optical fibre media in a record time. This was appreciated by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Ministry of Communications. The executive D P Wasnik, Divisional Engineer (NOFN), who led this project for completion in record time, has been awarded ‘Bharat Sanchar Seva Padak Award’ at the hands of Manoj Sinha, Minister of Communication and Minister of State for Railways at a glittering function at New Delhi on July 11.


The award comprises of a medal, a citation, a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, an all India holiday of 10 days for the whole family. The programme was attended by Aruna Sundar Rajan, IAS and Secretary DoT, Anupam Shrivastava, CMD BSNL and other top brass from BSNL.
