Staff Reporter,

Shiv Sena legislators on Wednesday took out morcha in Vidhan Bhawan premises as they escalated their protest to proposed Nanar refinery in Konkan region.
Earlier, in Legislative Assembly, Sena members made an attempt to snatch Speaker’s mace. The legislators walked across the premises indulging in heavy sloganeering against the project, grabbing eye balls.

Addressing mediapersons, Sunil Prabhu, Group Leader, Shiv Sena in Legislative Assembly, articulated party’s stance about Nanar, saying they are with hundreds of Project Affected People (PAPs) who have arrived in Nagpur and are protesting against the project.

The Sena MLAs hence rallied in support of PAPs and we wanted to raise the matter in House. Rajan Salvi, the project is coming-up in his constituency, requested Speaker for point of information but Chair denied him the permission. Then Sena legislators including MLAs Salvi, Pratap Sarnaik and Sadanand Chavan then tried to run away with Mace to raise their voice against the project.

Sena would not allow the project at any cost and we are with the PAPs, Prabhu stated further. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his reply in Legislative Council on Tuesday on Nanar had stated that he would discuss the matter with the villagers but Sena stance is that State need to announce scrapping of project as their is no point in discussion.

Sena would never change the stand as villagers do want this project in Konkan. MLA Rajan Salvi stated that the projects would affect fishery and agriculture in Konkan. It would destroy natural resources in our region.
Prabhu said Nanar would ruin Konkan and spoil its beauty and lead to pollution. People's livelihood is under threat and hence Sena's opposition to project while trying to clarify that party is not opposed to development.
MLA Nitesh Rane said that leader of Opposition in the Assembly was demanding of discussion over the Project under rule no.

97. But the Sena legislators indulged in politics and were more interested in adjournment of the House. We were demanding discussion so that everything would come on record. As Speaker did not allow me to speak, I took Mace in my hands, claimed Rane. He also accused Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of misleading the Upper House and should give name of persons who are ready to give their land for Nanar project.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister on Tuesday announced in the council that the State has received consent letters from farmers for land acquisition thereby granting the State a total of 2,500 acres of land.

‘Shiv Sena is not happy with Govt’s functioning’NCP leader Ajit Pawar after observing the Shiv Sena’s protest, commented that even the Sena legislators, who are part of the Government, are not happy with the functioning of State Government. The Sena is doing job of Opposition at the same time enjoying perks of power by remaining part of Government, he quipped.
